ANC Profile
Comprehensive assessment for expecting mothers/pregnancy monitoring
₹1200.00
The Antenatal Care (ANC) Profile is a comprehensive set of blood and urine tests recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester, to assess the health status of both the expectant mother and the developing fetus.
The primary goal is to detect and manage pre-existing conditions, infectious diseases, or emerging health risks early in the pregnancy to prevent complications and ensure a safe outcome for the mother and baby.
Key Tests Included in an ANC Profile
While the exact parameters may vary slightly by laboratory, a standard ANC profile usually includes the following essential tests:
1. Hematology and Blood Typing
Test Name | Purpose |
Complete Blood Count (CBC) | Screens for anemia (low Hemoglobin/Hb), which is common in pregnancy, and infections (by checking White Blood Cells). |
Blood Grouping & Rh Factor | Determines the mother's blood type (A,B,AB,O) and Rh status. This is crucial for detecting Rh incompatibility (if the mother is Rh-negative and the baby is Rh-positive), which may require intervention. |
Hemoglobin Electrophoresis (HPLC) | Screens for genetic blood disorders like Thalassemia or Sickle Cell Anemia, which could be passed to the baby. |
2. Infectious Disease Screening
These tests are vital as certain infections can be passed from mother to baby (vertical transmission) and cause serious complications.
Test Name | Infection Screened |
HBsAg | Hepatitis B (Surface Antigen) |
HIV-1 & HIV-2 | Human Immunodeficiency Virus |
VDRL / RPR | Syphilis |
Anti-HCV | Hepatitis C (Often included in advanced panels) |
Rubella | Checks for immunity to the German Measles virus, which can cause severe congenital defects if contracted early in pregnancy. |
3. Metabolic and Endocrine Assessment
Test Name | Purpose |
Blood Glucose (Fasting, Random, and/or PP) | Screens for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) or pre-existing diabetes, which can impact fetal growth. |
TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone) | Assesses thyroid function. Thyroid disorders are common in pregnancy and can affect both maternal and fetal health/development. |
4. Urine Examination
Test Name | Purpose |
Urine Routine & Microscopic | Checks for: Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), the presence of protein (which could indicate pre-eclampsia later in pregnancy), and glucose (which may confirm diabetes). |
Benefits of the ANC Profile
Early Intervention: Allows doctors to treat conditions like anemia, UTIs, and infectious diseases early, minimizing risk to the fetus.
Risk Mitigation: Identifies risks like Rh incompatibility and diabetes, enabling specific monitoring and management strategies.
Safety Planning: Ensures the medical team is fully prepared for delivery by knowing the mother's infectious disease status and blood type.
The ANC Profile is a cornerstone of preventative antenatal care, ensuring health problems are identified and managed promptly.
